Among his many literary awards are the Sequoyah Children’s Book Award and the Golden Archer Award. He was born on September 24, 1913 in Scraper, OK. As a child, Rawls read Jack London’s work and was a great inspiration to him. He became a carpenter and traveled to South America, Canada and Alaska. He later worked for the Atomic Energy Authority.
